Dermaplaning

Dermaplaning

Hey BFFs, welcome back to another BF blog post. Today we are going to cover a treatment that we just added to our menu, Dermaplaning. We will cover what its, what its benefits are, how often it can be done, and some side effects. I’m also going to dispel a popular myth about dermaplaning.

Dermaplaning is kind of the same concept a shaving. We will use a sterilized blade held at a 45 degree angle, skimmed across your skin. It removes dead skin cells, vellus hair (peach fuzz), and other debris that is giving your skin  a dull appearance. When you clear away dead and damaged skin cells, it allows newer skin cells to surface. Dermaplaning aims to exfoliate the skin to reveal youthful, glowing skin. Dermaplaning is good for treating acne scars, dull skin, dry skin, sun damaged skin, and fine wrinkles.

The benefits of dermaplaning are:

-Better product penetration

-Smoother skin

-Reduced appearance of acne scars

-Diminishes fine lines

This procedure can be done every 3-4 weeks. Its preferable have your skin complete its rejuvenation cycle, before having dermaplaning done again. When treatments are done too soon, it can lead to dryness and peeling of the skin.

Some side effects you may notice are: after the treatment, you may  experience some redness, it is completely normal and should disappear in a few hours. You may also notice some white heads pop up within a few days after the treatment. Also, because this a treatment done with a blade, while it is very rare, you can get cut, which can lead to scarring or infection.

Now, I am going to end this post with a myth buster. This is the number one fear that people have! People are worried that their hair will grow back darker or thicker, but I am here to tell you it won’t. Here is why, because dermaplaning is just removing the vellus hair (peach fuzz) it will grow back the same size and color. It is physiologically impossible to grow back thicker and darker. So consider your fears soothed BFF.

Hopefully, this answered all your questions about dermaplaning, and you give it a try! See ya next week BFFs!
